Sarah, a native Betawi girl, is very concerned about the situation of the people in her hometown. Since several new residential complexes have sprung up around her hometown, she sees many Betawi people being dragged down by the changes. For Sarah, as long as it only changes part of their lifestyle, she doesn't think much of it. But if it causes them to become consumptive and sell off their ancestral land in droves, Sarah can't allow it.

Sarah did not want to see the Betawi people no longer owning land in their own hometown. She did not want to see the Betawi people feel alienated from their original environment. She did not like to see the Betawi people lose their value orientation. So she always opposed her family's attempts to sell the land.
